The Colorado music scene allows every music lover to find something enticing for their musical pleasure. On any given day, there are multiple shows, some free, including unique collaborations that create a bond between artists and fans alike. This weekend was no exception.

The Summer of Serendipity began it’s free concert series this Memorial Day weekend with two full days of music headlined by Spacelab – a supergroup consisting of Jesse Miller from Lotus, Steve Molitz from Particle, Allen Aucoin of the Disco Biscuits, Scott Metzger of Bustle In Your Hedgerow & Gene Ween Band, and the legendary DJ Logic. It took place at the Greek Theatre in Denver’s Civic Center Park and also filled the weekend with other performers such as Genetics, Malai Llama, Moonalice, Joey Porter’s Vital Organ, and DeadPhish Orchestra.

Spacelab paid tribute to the German group Kraftwerk, one of the first to put electronic music on the map, and played classic songs by the band member’s projects, such as Lotus and the Disco Biscuits, in a fresh new way. The cohesion of this music showed the creative energy of each member and watching these men on stage was as fun as it was to listen to them play. Jesse Miller on bass was grooving around the stage, smile on his face, while Allen Aucoin was so in rhythm with the music, he broke a kick drum. Members of Spacelab ruled the stage in character, wearing black ties and red shirts, paying homage to Kraftewerk’s style.

It was a beautiful experience to see the variety of people who came out to enjoy this musical event, to kickoff the summer full swing. People from age one to a hundred came together in harmony, singing, dancing, and having a great weekend. Between the concert veterans coming out to see a unique collaboration, the old-age couple ballroom dancing in the back, the children dancing the robot with their parents, and the baby with the headphones just learning what it means to shake your groove thing – everyone was able to enjoy their surroundings with smiles and good graces all around, while the music lingered in the warm evening air.
