After seeing these guys play in basements, bars, and festivals I was stoked to see them headline at one of my favorite east coast venues; hard work and heavy touring pays off. The sound at the 9:30 Club is always on point. It’s easy to get to and, even though it’s in the nation’s capital, there is free parking all around the venue. Makes for easy access to a great time. Perfect venue for a debut album and headlining show.c9_1024x683

“Along with high energy stage presence and lighting, feel good vocals and solid riffs screaming from the guitars; one is sure to get groovin’ to the Pigeons.”

Inviting B Side Shuffle and Cabinet to the event allowed two different bands to fill the house with a diverse crowd. All who came were clearly ready to boogie down. Guest appearance on saxophone, legend Ron Holloway, was definitely a treat of itself. B Side Shuffle kicked the party off on that funky reggae vibe followed by Cabinet who delivered some serious bluegrass shred and really got the crowd moving.

PPPP4_512x768As the Pigeons took the stage the flock began to really crowd the dance floor though still leaving room for everyone to get funky. If you haven’t seen them before, these guys bring some bass heavy, psychedelic funk to every stage they step on to. Along with high energy stage presence and lighting, feel good vocals and solid riffs screaming from the guitars; one is sure to get groovin’ to the Pigeons. Even as an opening band Pigeons are always ready to party. In this case debuting their first album and with Fourth of July weekend at hand there was a special energy to them all. Even on an individual basis you could tell the guys were crushing it.

For all familiar or unfamiliar with Pigeons Playing Ping Pong they are embarking on a huge album release tour. On the road all over the country; from Maine to Georgia and even tapping into the west side, hitting Colorado for a few dates and everywhere in between. If you’re looking for some young cats full of high energy funky jams check their dates and join the flock!
