Lotus kicks off Winter/Spring 2013 Tour at full speed ahead

This band just never quits!  After only a few short weeks of ‘me’ time, Lotus kicked off their jam packed winter/spring tour at Burlington’s historical Higher Ground.   Vermont always brings a certain ‘je ne sais quoi’, and the warm and friendly crowd bounced off one another both literally and metaphorically in the sold out venue.  Perhaps one of the most appealing aspects of the venue is the tight-knit sense of community that is easily visible at each show.  The boys certainly seem to feel at home every time I have seen them perform here and their comfort was as abundant as ever last night.  While their first set was certainly nothing to scoff at including several out of the park home runs with ‘Juggernaut’, ‘Wax’ and ‘L’immueble’, the livetronica quintet kicked things into over drive during the second set/encore.  A very well rounded set included several new tunes as well as the debut of ‘Cloud 9’, a hip-hop remix of the soft and happy-go-lucky ‘The Surf’.  The song was well received by the crowd despite its slightly awkward set placement (first song of the encore) and gave a fresh face to a familiar song.  As usual the boys never disappoint with power hitters like ‘Flower Sermon’ and ‘Tip of the Tongue’, with filthy jams that showed a much darker and subtly sexual side to each musician.   A very powerful and uplifting ‘Hammerstrike’ closed out the encore, and left those in attendance high-spirited and dancing all the way to their cars.
