For the first time ever The Dave Matthews Band has decided not to generously take openers with them on the road. For the first time ever The Dave Matthews Band will be performing 2 sets at their shows.
Fans were told the band would be changing to a new 2 set format which would include 1 acoustic set and 1 electric set, but what did that really mean? Those in attendance on the opening night of the 2014 Dave Matthews Band Summer Tour received those 2 sets and a whole lot more… 
If you want to try and grasp the general idea, feeling and mood of the VERY early 7:18 PM start time watch this fan shot video below. Besides an absolute stellar version of ‘Stay or Leave’ featuring only Dave, Tim & Carter (let’s be real, the DMB A-Team)…Dave Matthews clearly states the obvious of how different the new style is. As stated by the front man himself the new setup of playing reminds him of jamming in Carter’s basement and how good it is that he can finally see him again (Carter). Almost serving as an opening act Matthews said he hoped to “blow the other mother-fuckers off the stage” referring to himself and what would be the “electric” 2nd set of the night. As Carter tunes up and the song is played to pure perfection, the three seem at ease and well prepared. As the song finishes and Stefan Lessard walks on stage with a stand up bass in hand acknowledging the crowd, Matthews breaks the ice by saying, “It doesn’t matter if you don’t know what to do with yourself…I don’t know what to do with myself…and I like it”

For those of us who are pure blooded DMB fans hearing the band explore their “unplugged/acoustic” side is almost a dream come true. I know speaking personally as someone who has traveled the country following this band around I have never been more excited about a summer tour. Things are once again fresh, different and while the band has always switched up their setlists every night you really have no idea what is coming next this tour…

I won’t go on and on, but the whole show is a delight to listen to (look below for a full download) and I suggest you take the time, put some headphones in and enjoy. Not only is the AUD (Audience Recording) near flawless hearing Carter Beauford play a FULL ACOUSTIC kit is a treat in and of itself. The man literally has every noise maker available and he uses each and everyone one of them…
…Oh wait and the best part?…the band you came to see not only OPENS, but CLOSES the show as well. The Dave Matthews Band came out for another almost full set of songs. Expect to see 3+ hour shows as this tour gets going. Expect surprises and expect this band to gel and jam and experiment like never before. Dave Matthews said in a Rolling Stone interview over the winter that the idea was to keep things fresh, take chances and jam like they were back in Carter’s Mom’s basement. I say BRING IT ON!
And yes with a setlist littered with “gems” I uploaded this song for one reason…IT SMOKES!!…whoa!
